The optimal window. Cottonwoods turn gold along the Virgin River, crowds thin dramatically after Labor Day, and the light goes amber. Hiking weather is ideal, warm days and cool nights. The Autumn Equinox around September 22 marks a threshold moment when balanced light and shadow fill the canyon.
