Peak whales. North shore still heavy. The best whale watching month.
February is the single best month for humpback whale watching on Kauai. The population is at its peak in Hawaiian waters, and sightings from cliff overlooks and boat tours are near-daily. The north shore remains swell-heavy through February, keeping the bay quiet for activities but active for surf watching. South shore is sunny and consistent.
Magic window: Humpback Whale Season (Dec – Apr, peak Jan – Mar)
North Pacific humpback whales arrive in Hawaiian waters each winter to breed and give birth. Kauai's south shore overlooks and the Kilauea Lighthouse headland are premier shore-watching sites. The Na Pali Coast boat tour in late February or March offers on-water sightings alongside the cliffs. Peak is January through March, when calf counts are highest.
