High summer. North shore boat tours at peak. Milky Way season continues.
August remains at peak summer volume. Conditions are nearly identical to July — warm, calm north shore, active boat tour season, full island capacity. The Milky Way is still high over Polihale on new moon nights. Crowds will begin to ease after mid-August as school resumes on the mainland. The last two weeks can feel noticeably less crowded than the first.
Magic window: Na Pali Summer Access (May – Sept)
Winter swells make north shore boat departures impossible. Summer calms the ocean enough that zodiac and catamaran tours can access the Na Pali coastline from Hanalei and Haena — the most dramatic departure route. Sea caves, spinner dolphins, and waterfalls at close range. Hanalei Bay opens for kayaking and SUP the same weeks.
