May marks the opening of the Na Pali north shore boat tour season — the most dramatic water access to the coast from Hanalei and Haena. Hanalei Bay is fully open and calm. Crowds are building toward summer peak but have not yet arrived fully. May is one of the finest months on the island: warm, calm, green, and not yet at capacity.

Magic window: Na Pali Summer Access (May – Sept)

Winter swells make north shore boat departures impossible. Summer calms the ocean enough that zodiac and catamaran tours can access the Na Pali coastline from Hanalei and Haena — the most dramatic departure route. Sea caves, spinner dolphins, and waterfalls at close range. Hanalei Bay opens for kayaking and SUP the same weeks.
