Yoga & Movement
Black Coral Yoga (Hanalei)
The anchor yoga studio on Kauaʻi's North Shore — voted #1 on the island — on the second floor of the historic Hanalei Center, above Bar Acuda, with a wraparound lanai facing mountain and waterfall views over Hanalei Town. The studio holds a lineage rooted in Patanjali's Yoga Sutras and Ashtanga Vinyasa, passed through teachers who trained here with Bhavani Maki at the Yoga Hanalei studio that previously occupied the same space. Classes range from infrared-heated Vinyasa and Hot 90 to non-heated Hatha, Yin, Restorative, breathwork, and sound. The community skews serious about practice — locals, long-term residents, and visitors who find it and keep coming back. Pre-registration required; early morning classes fill fast.

Anara Spa at Grand Hyatt Kauaʻi (Poipū)
The island's most developed spa facility. Traditional Hawaiian healing practices (lomilomi massage, pohaku hot stone treatment) offered alongside standard spa programming. Day access to the outdoor facilities — pools, waterfall, garden steam rooms — available for non-guests. Grand in scale; grounded in Hawaiian tradition.
- **Address**: 1571 Poipu Road, Koloa, HI 96756
Kauaʻi Yoga (Multiple Locations)
A long-running island-wide yoga community. Drop-in classes offered across Poipū, Kapaʻa, and Princeville. Check kauaiyoga.com for current schedules.
Kauaʻi Yoga on the Beach (Poipū / Hanalei)
Sunrise yoga sessions held directly on the sand — Poipū Beach in winter, Hanalei Bay in summer. The practice is simple and open-level: breath, movement, and the sound of the ocean as the only soundtrack. Group sessions run at dawn; private sessions available by arrangement. No studio, no walls, no mirrors. The beach is the room.
Angeline's Muʻumuʻu Heaven & Outdoor Shower Yoga (Kapaʻa)
One of the most genuinely Kauaʻi experiences on the island — Auntie Angeline Locey runs lomilomi massage, storytelling, and outdoor yoga from her home property in Anahola. The "yoga" is held under the sky near an outdoor shower surrounded by tropical gardens. The muʻumuʻu shop is an extension of her personality — vibrant, local, completely uncommercial. This is Hawaiian wellness as cultural practice, not spa product. By appointment only.
Water Practice
Nā Pali Kayak Meditation Paddle (North Shore, Summer)
A guided mindful paddle along the first stretch of the Nā Pali coastline — combining the physical practice of ocean kayaking with intentional silence, breath awareness, and open-water presence. Offered by select outfitters (check Kayak Kauaʻi for guided options) during the calm summer months when the north shore is navigable. The combination of sea cliffs, open ocean, and focused attention creates something no studio can replicate. Experience required; ocean conditions dictate whether the trip goes.
Stand-Up Paddleboarding — Hanalei Bay (Summer)
Hanalei Bay in summer is one of the finest flat-water SUP environments in the Pacific: a protected crescent bay with mountain backdrop, calm water, and turtles visible below the board on clear days. Multiple rental and lesson operators on the beach.
Kayaking the Wailua River
The only navigable river in Hawaiʻi. A guided kayak tour up the river passes through thick jungle to a trailhead; the hike beyond leads to Uluwehi (Secret) Falls — a 100-foot waterfall into a plunge pool. The combination of paddle and trail is one of the most consistently rewarding half-days on the island. Operators: Kayak Kauai, Wailua Kayak Adventures.
Contemplative
Limahuli Garden & Preserve (Hāʻena)
A National Tropical Botanical Garden property tucked into a valley on the north shore, built on the footprint of ancient Hawaiian agricultural terraces. Ancient loʻi (taro paddies), native plant collections, and one of the most biodiverse valleys in Hawaiʻi. Self-guided tours available; guided tours recommended for cultural depth. Limahuli is one of the quieter, more deeply grounded places on the island.

Hanalei Day Spa (Hanalei)
A full-service day spa on the North Shore offering massage, bodywork, facials, and energy healing in a garden setting steps from Hanalei town. Treatments draw on both Hawaiian and Pacific Rim traditions. Lomilomi massage and hot stone sessions are the specialties. Walk-ins sometimes accommodated, but booking ahead is recommended — the North Shore has limited spa options, and this is the best of them.
Alexander Day Spa & Salon at Kauaʻi Marriott (Līhuʻe)
The most accessible full-service spa on the east side — located inside the Kauaʻi Marriott Resort on Kalapakī Beach. A practical option for visitors based near Līhuʻe or arriving/departing the airport. Standard resort spa programming: massage, facials, ...
